Education workers and local government staff are vital to our communities but often don't get enough recognition for the work that they do.
Without dedicated staff, schools and local government will collapse. And without fair pay, services will continue to struggle to recruit and retain staff. Since 2010, education and council staff have suffered a 25% real terms pay cut.
UNISON, alongside other unions asked local government employers in Northern Ireland, England and Wales for a pay increase of £3,000.
Following receipt of the employers’ offer of a 3.2% increase, UNISON’s committee of leading activists agreed to launch a consultation of members on the offer, with a ‘reject’ recommendation.
Please be clear – should you choose to reject the offer, the next step would be voting for and potentially taking industrial action.
If you work in Education support services, you can find out what the offer means for you using the hourly rate chart here
