UNISON Northern Ireland

UNISON UPDATE FOR EDUCATION

The situation with schools at the moment is very fluid.

UNISON along with teaching unions and other support staff unions were given a schedule last Thursday announced publicly on the same day by the Education Minister of how schools would re-open.

This was set out in a circular from the EA which we attach a link to HERE.

It set out dates which are different in part from the rest of the UK.

At the time of writing this schedule and those of other parts of the UK are now being reviewed, The schedule may change .

In the meantime special needs schools and nursery schools remain open as do some schools for children of key and essential workers.

We will be posting updated guidance for members in these settings.

In all circumstances UNISON expects:

  • All infection prevention and control measures to be implemented.
  • Required risk assessments are carried out satisfactorily.
  • Support service staff are fully supported by the presence of designated school leadership on site and present during hours of attendance by children.
