WESTMINSTER GOVERNMENT MUST FUND A DECENT PAY RISE FOR HEALTH AND SOCIAL CARE WORKERS IN NORTHERN IRELAND SAYS UNISON

Commenting today (25th March) on the announcement that the Scottish government has made a pay offer to NHS staff in Scotland, UNISON Northern Ireland Head of Bargaining and Representation Anne Speed said:
“This shows where there’s a political will, there’s most definitely a way.

Valuing staff and investing in the NHS is a political choice. The Northern Ireland Executive must commit to that choice.

We need MP’s from Northern Ireland to step up and step out on this issue. The Westminster government must be told in no uncertain terms that funding for a decent pay rise is absolutely necessary. Boris Johnson and Rishi Sunak must deliver.

After a long and difficult year, a decent pay rise for NHS staff should be a simple decision to make and will be popular with the public.

Health workers took on responsibility and made sacrifices via industrial action to restore pay parity. We will do so again if our political leaders fail us.’’
