UNISON calls on MPs to respond to the public sector pay debate - 4th December

UNISON have today written to 10 DUP MPs and the 7 Sinn Fein MPs plus Lady Sylvia Hermon in a bid to scrap the 1% pay cap.

Since 2010, public sector workers in Northern Ireland have seen the value of their pay fall year after year.  While the cost of living has soared, public sector wages have barely risen.  That means the people we rely on to educate our children and care for our loved ones in hospitals and in the community are being pushed closer and closer to breaking point.

UNISON is calling for the government to put pay up now and has secured a parliamentary debate on public sector pay on 4th December.  UNISON Northern Ireland has publically called on all NI MPs attending the debate, including those who will be present at parliament buildings, to demand that the £26 million now available to pay the 1% due since April 2017 be released and paid to all NHS workers. As health workers in Northern Ireland are currently 3% behind NHS pay levels across the rest of the UK, they desperately need this pay rise.

We are now asking you our members to also contact your MP using the attached letters to gain their support in scrapping the pay cap. Public sector workers deserve more, you deserve fair pay.
