NIC-ICTU celebrates rights victories

On the day of decriminalisation of abortion and introduction of same sex marriage, the Irish Congress of Trade Unions commends campaigners.

Speaking on the day of the introduction of same sex marriage and decriminalisation of abortion, Clare Moore, Equality Officer with the ICTU said:

“The trade union movement has campaigned for many years for proper reproductive healthcare and for equal marriage.  Come 12.01 on the 22nd October, women in Northern Ireland will no longer risk criminalisation for accessing basic healthcare provision, while same sex couples will be able to look forward to marrying surrounded by their families and friends here in Northern Ireland.

“We will continue our long-standing work with campaigners and civil society groups to ensure that legislation on both matters is comprehensive , and is introduced as quickly as possible’.
