UNISON Northern Ireland

MEMBERS OF UNISON WORKING IN EDUCATION INFORM THE EDUCATION AUTHORITY OF STRIKE ACTION!

UNISON members have told us they are not prepared to be fobbed off and will vote in an industrial action ballot.

Our members in education have been landed in this disastrous situation because of the absence of an Assembly and no devolved government being in place. There is a reality that education services have been underfunded for years. A local Minister could at least begin steps to tackle the issue of low pay for education workers and bring in the badly needed pay and grading review that has been delayed for far too long.

UNISON call on the secretary of state to end his strategy of placing economic sanctions on workers across the public sector and put in place a proper budget for NI. UNISON call on our own political parties to end the boycott of Stormont and re-double their efforts to restore our devolved institutions, placing public services and workers needs at the centre of any restoration of government.

UNISON call upon the permanent secretary for education to speak up for education workers in Northern Ireland and engage with UNISON urgently to negotiate the long overdue reforms to pay and grading as well other vital contractual and operational issues for education workers on the NJC pay scales.
