UNISON Northern Ireland

The Lukasz Karpinski Bursary

A bursary has been set up in memory of Lukasz Karpinski, who died in October 2017.

Lukasz worked alongside trade unions and with ICTU in Belfast running their Migrant Workers Project. He was bright and engaging, always seeking to improve his skills and valued education and lifelong learning.

The Northern Ireland Committee of ICTU has decided to launch an annual education bursary in his name. The bursary will be a one off payment of £2,500 and will be awarded to a trade union nominated activist who is committed to lifelong learning and wishes to engage in further education.  The recipient must also demonstrate a capacity in their union work to further the interests of our migrant and international workers.

Applications will be considered by the Officers of the Northern Ireland Committee of ICTU and each year the successful applicant will be presented with the Lukasz Karpinski bursary at the NIC ICTU Union Learning Conference.  The Recipient will be invited to attend the Union Learning Conference the following year to address the Conference on their work.
