UNISON Northern Ireland

Demand Change - PRIDE 2017

The theme of this years Belfast Pride was 'Demand Change.' There were many events and activities running throughout last week.

UNISON hosted the 'Stand Up for Marriage Equality' Comedy Event in the Black Box. This was very well attended and the acts, many of whom were doing stand up for the first time, were abolsutely fabulous and engaged the crowd in humorous anidotes about their lives. These anidotes though engaging highlighted that we still have a long way to go and had more serious underlying messages such as the need for universal healthcare and education around LGBT issues.

The parade on Saturday was well attended by the UNISON NI branches and we thank them for their support, over 5 000 people in total were thought to have attended the rally and PRIDE village, making Saturday a great day for solidarity and of course driving home the message that we 'Demand Change'.

UNISON NI continue their LGBT work through their self organised group, details available on that area of the website and dedicated facebook page.
