UNISON Northern Ireland

2019 Northern Ireland Local Elections Hustings

We hosted a hustings event in Galway House ahead of the local elections taking place on Thursday the 2nd May.

We welcomed Rosie Kinnear from Sinn Féin, Hugh Scullion from The Workers Party, Fiona Ferguson from People Before Profit, Stephen Maginn from the Green Party and Brian Heading from the SDLP.

Candidates were challenged on issues like the privatisation of public services, cuts to education and health care, childcare provision, LGBT+ rights, housing, reproductive healthcare for women and Brexit.

UNISON NI Head of Bargaining, Anne Speed, called for all parties if successful in their election, to commit to consulting with trade unions on these issues, work together to restore public services and legislate for better pay and working conditions.

All parties were invited to attend.
