Expecting Equality - A short seminar examining the rights of employees who are pregnant or who are new mothers

In January 2015 the Equality Commission for Northern Ireland began a formal investigation to examine the employment experiences of pregnant workers and mothers in Northern Ireland. This investigation was deemed appropriate and necessary in light of the volume of enquiries received by the Commission regarding potential pregnancy and maternity discrimination and the growing body of research highlighting the persistence of discriminatory treatment experienced by pregnant employees and mothers. The Commission’s findings were published in a report called Expecting Equality.

This session will provide an overview of the investigation’s findings as will outline the rights, under employment and equality law of the affected employee
