Supporting Members Impacted by Drug or Alcohol Misuse

UNISON Belfast 

This one day workshop will explore how you define drug and alcohol misuse and the impact on an individual in their home and work life.  It will cover the policies which can be utilised by reps to support members to stay engaged with work and how to represent them if they are facing capability or disciplinary hearings.  

It will be delivered by Ascert and UNISON.

Being a Health & Safety Rep entitles you to paid time off for union duties.   All stewards are asked to complete Health & Safety training to enable you to support members in the workplace and to secure time off to do so.   This is particularly important for those in the private/voluntary sector.

This workshop will introduce provide an oversight into epilepsy, its presentation and management.   It will explore what it is, incidence in the UK, causes, how to respond particularly to older people, children and those with a learning disability, seizures and their management, trigger factors, treatment, status epileptius, SUDEP, care plans and the role of a carer or health/education professional.   It will be delivered by Sarah McCann, Epilepsy Nurse Specialist.
